How to Recover My Account Without Phone Number

Many users opt to stay logged in to Facebook on their computers and mobile devices so that it's easy to access the social media site. However, when you're inadvertently logged out, it can be hard to remember your password when logging back in. If you need a Facebook password reset, here's what you need to know to get back into your account.

Information in this article applies to recovering a Facebook account on the desktop or with the Facebook mobile app for iOS or Android.

How to Get Back Into Your Facebook Account

There's no real way to recover your old Facebook password. Facebook can't send it to you because they don't know it, which is a common security practice. You can, however, get back into your Facebook account by resetting your password.

Reset Facebook Password on the Desktop

Here's what to do from Facebook on the desktop in a browser:

  1. If you're on a device that was recently logged in to your Facebook account, Facebook may be able to save the day by presenting you with Recent Logins. If you see your account profile, select it to log in to your account automatically.

  2. If you're on a new device or Facebook doesn't remember your last login, navigate to the Facebook Find Your Account page.

Alternatively, from the login page, select Forgot Password.

  3. Enter your email address, phone number, your full name, or your username. Then, select Search.

Facebook lets you search by your name in this field, which is handy if you can't recall the email address you used when setting up your account.

  4. If you entered an email address or phone number and Facebook finds a match, select how you want to receive your password reset code and then select Continue.

If you registered a phone number and email with Facebook, you see options for receiving your code by text or email. If you only registered an email, this is your only option.

  5. If you entered a name in the search field, Facebook shows you matching search results. Select This Is My Account if you see your profile picture, or select I am Not in This List.

If you selected I am Not in This List, Facebook asks for a friend's name to identify your account.

  6. If you selected your account, choose how you want to receive the password reset code and then select Continue.

  7. If you found your account but don't have access to the phone number and email you set up, Facebook can't verify your identity.

  8. If you found your account and selected a method for receiving your reset code, enter the security code you received and select Continue.

  9. Enter a new password and select Continue. You've successfully changed your password.

  10. Facebook displays a message advising you to log out of other devices in case someone else has access to your old password. Select Log out of other devices or Stay logged in, and then select Continue.

  11. You're back in your account, ready to share and like.

Reset Facebook Password From the Facebook App

If you use Facebook on an iOS or Android device, here's how to recover your account.

  1. On the Facebook login screen, tap Forgot Password.

  2. Enter a phone number, email address, name, or username.

  3. Select Confirm via Email or Confirm via Text, depending on your settings, and then tap Continue.

  4. Enter the password reset code.

  5. Choose Keep me logged in or Log me out of other devices and tap Continue.

  6. Enter a new password and tap Continue. You're now back in your Facebook account.
